Volleyball Tournament 23rd May 2026

In the final tournament of the spring season, matches will be played with the same teams from start to finish. However, you don’t need a team to participate! You register as an individual, and we, as the organizers, will divide participants into groups that are as balanced as possible.

The tournament will most likely be played in two divisions of varying skill levels at the fantastic new school in Etelä-Hervanta.

There have been a lot of participants in recent tournaments, so it’s a good idea to secure your spot early!

If Höntsy’s volleyball tournaments are new or unfamiliar to you, you can find general information about them here.

The tournament will be held on Saturday, May 23 at the Etelä-Hervanta School from approximately 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The facilities are spacious, with high ceilings, and there’s a balcony for spectators and others interested in watching. The exact schedule depends on the number of participants—if there are fewer people, the tournament will end earlier. If there are a lot of people, we’ll split into shifts: some will start and finish earlier, others later.

This tournament is played in teams, meaning teams will be formed from the registered individuals, and those teams will play all day from start to finish. The format depends on the number of teams, but usually there is a round-robin stage followed by playoffs for everyone. We aim to form as balanced as possible teams, with a good mix of different player types. There will be plenty of games—about 8–10 full sets of volleyball throughout the day. You’re guaranteed to get plenty of hits.

This time, there are unofficial post-game games again – a sauna ferry has been reserved at Hatanpää for this purpose from around 9 PM to 3 AM, and you can sign up for them at the same time you register for the tournament. However, the sauna fee of 15 euros is paid on-site, not to Höntsy. There is only one sauna on the ferry, so good sportsmanship, consideration, and swimwear (swimsuits required) are expected from everyone. Of course, you’re welcome to join even if you don’t plan to use the sauna. Weather permitting, we’ll have a pre-party on the beach before the ferry is available to us.

Last time we tried teams of seven players, which turned out to be a good solution.

This way, the team won’t immediately have to play with five players if one player fails to show up or has to leave the game early. At the same time, the number of tournament participants is a bit flexible, meaning it doesn’t have to be exactly divisible by six—this allows us to better accommodate everyone who has signed up. A team can therefore have 6 or 7 players, depending on the final number of participants and the tournament format. If there are seven players, the team plays with a rotating substitute (tactical substitutions are not allowed).

In the tournament, teams will referee each other’s games, meaning every group will also have referee shifts—as in the previous tournament, it may be possible to buy a referee from the café to handle your team’s shift.

When registering, you can request a specific division, but we cannot guarantee that it will be fulfilled. Players will be placed and balanced divisions created by leveraging the organizers’ knowledge of the players and the previous tournament success of registrants—especially for new players, of course, also based on what they tell us about themselves. If you are not a regular at Höntsy, please fill out this section carefully – the easiest and most helpful way is to compare yourself to a player we already know! Similarly, if you are a regular but for some reason (e.g., a minor injury) are not currently playing at your usual level, please let us know.

Entry fee: standard price 27 euros and reduced price 22 euros (students, seniors, unemployed, and those on parental leave). With a Höntsy Pass (our monthly membership) 20 euros.

Sign up (sign-up form) by filling out this form. Registration closes on Thursday, May 21.
