The first major Höntsy tournament of the fall will be held on Saturday, September 5, at Sammon Keskuslukio. The tournament is open to everyone, and you don’t need a team to participate. Different skill levels!

Here are the remaining tournament dates for the fall season. The other three tournaments will be held at the brand-new Pohjois-Hervanta School: by teams on October 10, in a round-robin format on November 14, and by teams on January 2, 2027.
In this tournament, we’ll be playing round-robin matches. Matchups are determined from the bracket; we’ll play a short set, and players will be awarded points based on the final score: 3-0, 2-0, or 2-1. Then we’ll move on to the next matchup, play the next set, and so on. Points are earned as a team, but as the pairings change, each player accumulates their own individual point total.

The goal is always to have enough players to run two-tier tournaments. There’s usually some minor player movement between these tiers halfway through the tournament. It’s also possible that one or more of the preliminary groups will fall between these two tiers.
When you register, you can submit a preferred division, but we cannot guarantee that it will be fulfilled. When placing players, we take into account not only their preferences but also our judgment, common sense, and the players’ previous tournament performance—as well as the principle of rotation when dealing with the boundaries between divisions.
The goal, of course, is for the matches to be at an appropriate skill level for the players and as engaging as possible throughout the long day. After the preliminary rounds, roughly halfway through the tournament, players will be divided into finals at different skill levels. Everyone will advance regardless of their results—only the level of the finals is determined in the preliminary rounds. We hope everyone gets to play plenty of games and enjoys the tournament atmosphere, regardless of the outcome!
The tournament will be held at Sammon Keskuslukio (address Uimalankatu 5) from approximately 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. If there are a lot of players, start and end times will be staggered, and for some, the tournament may run later into the evening.
Note: You must confirm your court time slot more than a week before the tournament—if a large number of registrations come in after that, not everyone will be able to participate. The earlier you register, the more certain you can be of a spot.
We aim to play all tournament games as 6 vs. 6. Depending on the number of players, we may also form 1–2 groups where games are played 5 vs. 5; these groups may also be created during the day if someone has to leave a game early. Ideally, each group will have 13 players, each of whom will sit out one period in turn (so there are no substitutes in a single match).
How much does it cost? With a monthly Höntsy Pass, the price is 20 euros; for others, the regular price is 27 euros, and the discounted price (for students, seniors, and the unemployed) is 22 euros.
Registration closes on Thursday, September 3. Registration is binding, meaning you agree to pay the participation fee even if you do not show up. Cancellation is only possible due to a compelling reason. Cancellations due to compelling circumstances are free of charge if made by September 2; after that, a cancellation fee of 10 euros applies. If you no-show—that is, if you do not show up and do not notify us of your cancellation at all (even on the morning of the event)—you will be charged double the tournament fee. This is because the tournament brackets are set in advance, and a no-show requires the entire process to be redone.
