The first team tournament of the year is coming up! The games will be played with the same teams from start to finish. You don’t need a team to participate! You register as an individual, and we as the organizers will divide the participants into teams that are as evenly matched as possible. This time, we will try teams of seven players.
The tournament will most likely be played in two different leagues at the magnificent new school in Etelä-Hervanta. Lately, there have been a lot of participants in the tournaments, so it’s a good idea to secure your spot in time!

The tournament will be played on Saturday, March 7 at Etelä-Hervanta School between approximately 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. There will be a spectator area for those taking a break and others who are interested. The exact time of the tournament depends on the number of participants—if there are fewer people, the tournament will end earlier. If there are a lot of people, we will divide them into shifts: some will start and finish earlier, and some later. In this tournament, the competitive series will start first in the morning.
This tournament will be played in teams, i.e., teams will be formed from the registered individuals, and they will play together from start to finish throughout the day. The number of teams affects the game system, but usually there is a preliminary round first, followed by playoffs for everyone. We strive to form as evenly matched teams as possible, with a balanced mix of different types of players. There will be plenty of games, about 8-10 full sets throughout the day.
As the number of teams increases, the likelihood of someone having to cancel at the last minute or leave the games unfinished has also increased. For this reason, we are now trying out the option of playing with seven players. At the same time, the number of participants in the tournament is slightly flexible, meaning that it does not have to be divisible by six – this allows all registered players to participate more easily. A team can therefore have 6 or 7 players, depending on the final number of participants and the series system. If there are seven players, the team will play with a rotating substitute player (tactics involving substitutions are not allowed).
In the tournament, the teams will referee each other’s games, which means that each team will also have to take turns refereeing. This tournament will also likely include a trial option to purchase a team’s way out of refereeing (referees can be hired from the café). At the same time, we will see how much demand there is for this option.
When registering, you can request a league, but we cannot guarantee that it will happen. Players will be placed and balanced divisions will be created using the organizers’ knowledge of the players and the previous tournament success of those who have registered—especially in the case of new players, of course, based on what they tell us about themselves. If you are not a regular at Höntsy, please fill in this section carefully – the easiest and most illustrative way is to compare yourself to a player we know! Similarly, if you are a regular but for some reason (e.g., a minor injury) you are not currently at your usual level, please let us know.
